Maintaining Veneers

You want to ensure that your smile gives off a good first impression. You have invested in veneers to ensure that your smile is a white and healthy one. However, veneers may be a mystery to you. The dentist most likely gave you instructions on how to care for the veneers, but you may have forgotten or you were to busy looking in the mirror to remember what he or she said. In order to help you with your veneers, here are a few simple rules to follow to keep your new veneers as clean as possible.

Clean Them Like Teeth

If you want your veneers to stay as white and clean as possible you are going to want to clean them just like you would your normal teeth. You want to make sure that you are brushing your teeth at least twice a day, and preferably after each meal. You will also want to floss each time that you brush your teeth. Many people believe that, since the veneers are made of porcelain, they do not need to brush their teeth, and this is simply a big mistake. You will also want to rinse with a good mouthwash. These habits are protecting much more than just your veneers. These habits are going to keep your entire mouth healthy, including your gums.

Avoid Stains

The veneers are most likely going to be constructed out of porcelain and are therefore very tough and resistant to stains, but they are not stain proof. In order to keep your veneers as white as possible, you are going to want to make sure that you avoid staining foods. Some of the most common things that can discolor teeth are colas, coffee, and orange juice. These contain a great deal of acid and can do a lot of damage to your teeth.

Visit The Dentist Regularly

Some people try to avoid the dentist at all costs, and only visit when there is an emergency. When you wait to see the dentist, you may be allowing a simple mouth problem to turn into an even bigger problem. Simply visit with your dentist at least once a year and allow him or her to do a check on your overall oral health. If something needs to change, the dentist will let you know what and how to make the change to your dental hygiene. Contact a clinic like Advanced Family Dental Care LLC to learn more.
